Buzzle Staff Feb 24, 2020
Drawing anime hands is a little easier than a realistic one, but it still requires a lot of practice. We provide you with step-by-step instructions to draw anime hands holding something.
Important Tip

The key to drawing good anime is creating good-quality lines. Always, draw a line in a single stroke because it looks very sharp and neat. Practice drawing lines regularly to enhance your performance.
Anime is Japanese animation, which has become very popular with children, teenagers, as well as adults. In fact, drawing or sketching anime is a favorite hobby among many people. Drawing just the face can be comparatively easy, but when you are making a comic or trying to tell a story, things can get complicated. Most people struggle with the hands, especially when the hands are holding something.
Drawing anime hands is a little simpler than realistic hands, as the details are left out. You will require regular practice to master drawing hands. It is very important to understand that the proportions are similar to human hands. You can study your own hand for reference.
Remember that though male and female hands look similar, little detailing will make your art stand out. Female hands should have slender fingers and longer nails, whereas the male hands should be bigger.
So, get ready and have fun sketching your favorite anime characters. Also, don't forget to draw the middle finger a little longer, while the index and ring fingers should roughly be of the same height.

How to Draw Anime Hands

Step 1

The first step is very simple. All you have to do is draw the basic shape. You can draw a fist by looking at your own hand to understand the shape.
Now, mark the lines for the fingers. Make sure that the distance between the lines is equal. Remember that the thumb is always bent when you hold something. The line for the thumb will be different from the rest.

Step 3

It's time to draw the fingers. Since we have already drawn the basic lines, drawing all the fingers is so much simpler! Make sure that all the fingers are proportionate. Also, don't forget to draw some lines on the palm.

Step 4

Darken the final lines, and rub off any extra ones. Now that our hand is almost done, draw the object. You can draw any object, once you understand how to draw the basic hand. Here, our hand is holding a door knob.

Step 5

Wow, doesn't that look good? If you are satisfied with your final result, darken it with a black marker or pen. Our anime hand holding something is ready.

Step 6

Now comes the best part―coloring! If you are just making sketches, you needn't color; otherwise use colors appropriately as depicted in the illustration above.
We are sure that these steps and tips will help you draw better hands. Practice more, and compare your own work from time to time. Have fun sketching your favorite anime characters!
