How to Make Face Paint Without Cold Cream

Contrary to popular belief, cold cream is not an indispensable ingredient in homemade face paint. Here's how you can make some without the use of a cold cream and use it as effectively as well.
With Halloween around, face painting is one of the many activities kids would like to engage in, to enjoy this holiday. With all their Halloween costumes, face painting only aids the completion of the attire.
Since some of you may not like to indulge in the use of commercial face paint for their little ones, due to the harshness of the product, you may want to learn how to make the face paint at home.
Again, most face painting recipes require the use of cold cream as a base. If you are allergic to cold cream or do not want to use it for any other reason, here are some methods on making it without the use of a cold cream, and still getting the most out of these.

Face Paint Using Corn Syrup

Ingredients
  • Light Corn Syrup, ¾ cup
  • Water, ¼ cup
  • Cornstarch, 3 tbsp.
  • All-purpose White Flour, 1 tbsp.
  • Liquid Food Coloring
Directions
Combine together the cornstarch and flour. While stirring continuously, add in the light corn syrup and water. Keep stirring to avoid the formation of lumps, till the mixture is smooth.
Put this mixture into a paint palette or different containers, and based on the requirement of colors, add in a few drops of food coloring to each of these containers. Your face paint is ready to be applied.

Face Paint Using Vaseline

Ingredients
  • Cornstarch, 5 tbsp.
  • Shortening, 2 tbsp.
  • Flour, 1 tsp.
  • Vaseline, a dab
  • Liquid Food Coloring
Directions
Combine together the flour, cornstarch, and shortening till the mixture is completely smooth. Add a dab of Vaseline and mix well. Separate the mixture in a palette or in containers, and add the liquid food coloring depending on your choice.

Face Paint Using Glycerin

Ingredients
  • Cornstarch, 5 tsp.
  • Pure White Shortening, 2 tsp.
  • All-Purpose White Flour, 1 tsp.
  • Glycerin, 3 - 4 drops
  • Liquid Food Coloring
Directions
Simply combine together all the ingredients until smooth. Separate into containers and add the liquid food coloring depending on the number of colors you require.
Please Note: Since kids have a sensitive skin, it is important to check whether any sort of ingredients, used to make the face paint, do not react negatively with their skin. For this purpose, it is ideal to first perform a patch test before you use any of these recipes. Prepare a small amount and rub it on their hand.
Allow it to remain for a few hours and then wash it off. If the skin feels itchy or burns, your child is probably sensitive to the products used in these homemade face paint recipes. It is then safer not to use anything on her/his skin, as it may prove dangerous. Do the same for your skin to ensure that you do not suffer from any aftereffects.
As you can see, all the ingredients used in the aforementioned recipes for face paint do not consist of cold cream but other natural ingredients. Moreover, a lot of face painting recipes require to be removed with the use of a cold cream.
However, removing the face paint without a cold cream is also possible, and the recipes mentioned here can easily be removed with soap and warm water. Do remember to moisturize the skin thereafter to keep it from drying. These face paint recipes can be made in batches and stored for the upcoming festive season.
